Polythene Recycling

If you are looking for polythene recycling, then you have come to the right place. At Plastic Expert, we recycle hundreds of tons of polythene every year, helping to keep your organization sustainable and environmentally-friendly.

Polythene is a petrochemical-based product. It is made from the crude oil that oil companies extract from underground. For many, the idea that you could have an environmentally-friendly plastic product that is a by-product of oil production seems a little far-fetched. But at Plastic Expert, we make it possible. With us, you can experience all of the benefits of polythene without damaging the environment.

How We Recycle Your Polythene Waste

How exactly does polythene recycling work? Plastic recycling first emerged towards the end of the 1960s. With the growth in the use of plastic products in practically every area of life, people needed a way to prevent landfills from overflowing with this new abundance of plastic. Researchers, therefore, quickly got to work looking for ways to recycle and reuse plastic at a low cost. We still use many of the waste management methods that they developed at Plastic Expert today. Here’s how we recycle your polythene waste.
Step One: Sort the Plastic
The first step is to sort the plastic according to type. Different types of plastic have different resin contents – something that you can see for yourself if you look at the symbols on the bottom of plastic containers. Recycling facilities also like to sort plastic by their colour because the dye in plastic can affect the appearance and qualities of the final recycled plastic products.
Step Two: Chop the Plastic
The next step is to chop the polythene and polyethylene recycling into small chunks. The reason for doing this is twofold: to standardize the plastic and remove any debris, and chopping allows us to remove paper labels, dirt, and other small contaminants.
Step Three: Clean the Plastic
The next step is to clean the plastic to remove all of the things in it that aren’t plastic. Contaminants can harm the properties of the recycled material.
Step Four: Melt and Compress The Plastic
After cleaning the pieces of plastic, the polythene goes into a type of oven that melts it. We melt the plastic so that we can turn it into uniform pellets that can sell as raw inputs to plastic manufacturers. A pelleting machine then takes the melted plastic and forms it into small, uniform plastic pieces. Once the process is complete, manufacturers can buy the pellets and use them to make whatever they like. Polythene water pipes, for instance, can be made anew into dustbin crates.

LDPE Recycling and HDPE Recycling

Polythene comes in two distinct varieties: LDPE and HDPE. LDPE stands for “low-density polyethylene.” LDPE is cherished all over the world for its remarkable properties, such as its strength-to-weight ratio, sealing abilities, water-resistance, and ease of processing. Manufacturers use it to make all kinds of everyday objects, from freezable bottles to flexible container lids. LDPE recycling uses a standardized process to transform these objects into a generic material that manufacturers can then use to create new everyday items.
HDPE stands for “high-density polyethylene.” The properties of HDPE are different from LDPE. HDPE is durable, sturdy, and has a much higher stiffness. You find HDPE plastic in plastic packaging, waste carrier bags, shrink wrap, retail bags, water bottles, milk bottles, and juice bottles. It is one of the most popular plastic products on the market. HDPE recycling from Plastic Expert follows a standard process to transform your waste HDPE into something that can be used again to make another plastic product.

is polythene recyclable?

Polythene is a type of plastic that is recyclable. It can be recycled into a variety of products such as plastic lumber, garden furniture, and fencing. However, the recycling rate of polyethylene is relatively low compared to other types of plastics. This is due to the lack of recycling facilities and difficulties in sorting and processing the material. This is why we are here to help businesses generating this waste.

Why Recycle Polythene?

There are all kinds of reasons why businesses should recycle their polythene plastic waste and here are just a few examples.

Prevent the Opening of New Landfills

In the UK, businesses and individuals throw away more than 513,000 tonnes of plastic bottles every year. The vast majority of these bottles, unfortunately, end up in a landfill. With Plastic Expert by your side, you can help to prevent this. By recycling polythene with us, you can transform your waste plastic into new products, preventing it from going to landfill and harming the environment.

Prevent Plastics from Entering the Ocean

Plastic pollution in the ocean is a serious concern. It’s finding its way into the bodies of practically all creatures that live in the sea, and it could be damaging human health too. With Plastic Expert, you can help to keep the oceans healthy and prevent more dangerous “micro-plastics” from getting into the food chain.

Reduce the Use of Energy

Extracting new oil from the ground and making it into plastic is a highly energy-intensive process. Not only do you need lots of energy to power the extraction process itself, but you also have to put a lot of energy into making the polymers that give plastic its unique properties. Creating plastic from scratch, therefore, emits more CO2.

Estimates suggest, however, that businesses that recycle their plastic cut energy usage by around 88% – nearly a factor of ten! By recycling your plastic, you help to reduce both your direct and indirect fossil fuel consumption.

Reduce the Negative Impact on The Economy

Plastic takes between 400 and 1,000 years to decompose. For this reason, it could end up having a profoundly negative impact on the global economy long term. By recycling your polythene, you help to protect the wealth of future generations.
