RIGID PLASTIC DISPOSAL

Rigid Plastic Waste Collections

At Plastic Expert, we recycle various rigid plastics for UK businesses. This may include HDPE, PVC, acrylic and more. Whilst all of these plastic types can be recycled, many still find their way into incinerators. This is why it is essential to partner with a recycling company to dispose of plastic materials safely.
We recycle rigid plastics whilst also buying scrap plastic in bulk from businesses. This includes various types of plastic materials, opening up a cost effective and sustainable solution. The waste collected is then transported to recycling centres for repurposing.

Rigid Plastic Recycling UK-Wide

What rigid plastics can we recycle?

Rigid plastic covers everything too thick or too structural to bale like film; pipe, sheet, mouldings, crates, pallets and drums. It is bulky, awkward to store and expensive to put in a general waste skip, but almost all of it is a single polymer and therefore genuinely recyclable.
We collect bulk loads of the grades below from businesses across the UK, sort them by polymer, and send them for granulation and reprocessing into new products. Nothing is sent to landfill or incineration, and every collection comes with a recycling certificate.
01

HDPE

High-density polyethylene
Strong, durable and used for rigid piping, crates and containers. It is not biodegradable, so left alone it ends up in landfill or waste-to-energy. We make sure this plastic waste is recycled.
Typical items
Pipe, crates, drums, milk bottles, jerry cans
02

PET

Polyethylene terephthalate
One of the most widely recycled polymers in the UK, thanks to its use in drinks bottles and food packaging. Clear PET carries the highest value of any rigid grade.
Typical items
Bottles, trays, punnets, clamshells
03

Polypropylene

PP · type 5
Tough, heat-resistant and everywhere in industry. PP has a strong reprocessing market and is one of the easiest rigid grades for us to find a home for.
Typical items
Trays, tubs, crates, closures, automotive trim
04

Acrylic

PMMA · perspex
Offcuts and sheet from fabrication, signage and glazing. Clean acrylic is valuable, but it must be kept separate from other polymers to hold that value.
Typical items
Sheet, offcuts, signage, display units, glazing
05

PVC and uPVC

Polyvinyl chloride
Rigid PVC from construction and fabrication. Frequently incinerated by general waste contractors, we granulate it and return it to manufacturers making new pipe.
Typical items
Window frames, guttering, pipe, conduit, vinyl
06

ABS

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene
An engineering plastic from electronics housings, automotive parts and moulded products. Sorted cleanly it commands a good rate from reprocessors.
Typical items
Housings, mouldings, automotive parts, trim

FAQs

Yes, we can collect and recycle bulk mixed rigid plastic recycling for businesses nationwide. This includes bales of mixed hard plastics in large volumes.
Once collected, your material goes to a permitted reprocessing facility where it is sorted by polymer type, shredded into flake, washed to remove labels, adhesives and residue, then dried and extruded into pellets or granules. What they become depends on the grade. Rigid HDPE and PP often go back into pipe, crates and pallets; PET goes into new bottles, food trays and polyester fibre; PVC is granulated and returned to manufacturers. Nothing we collect is sent to landfill or incineration, and we issue a recycling certificate with recorded weights for every collection so you can evidence exactly where your waste ended up.
